Tour de Rock

rock_proud_support_logoMid Island Co-op, along with Vancouver Island Consumer Co-op’s, are a proud sponsor for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

Tour de Rock is a team of police officers who travel over 1,000 km on their bikes from the north end to the south end of Vancouver Island. This trip takes 15 days and has the riders visiting over 27 communities. All funds raised for Tour de Rock benefit pediatric cancer research and programs that help children with cancer and their families.

Last year alone Mid Island Co-op raised over $19,000 for Tour de Rock! This year we are hoping to beat the $20,000 mark. All of our nine gas bars get highly involved with events and show tremendous support. Watch out for fundraising events such as BBQs, car washes, head shaves, event nights and more! All Tour de Rock fundraising events will be published on this page of our web site.

If you have any ideas or would like to help out with a fundraising event, please call (250) 729-8413 or email, karelyn@midisland.coop

Mid Island Co-op’s “Spin-a-thon” for Tour de Rock…

The first annual Mid Island Co-op “Spin-a-thon” raised over $3700!

The “Spin-a-thon” had participants collect donations in support of biking one hour on a stationary bike. A big thank you to all of our participants. Other activities through out the day included; bbq, car wash and a raffle. The weather was sunny and clear, perfect for members of the Nanaimo Clippers to take part in the car wash. We also had two Tour de Rock 2009 riders present for the day. They were there to help provide support to the participants and educate people about the tour.

Thank you to the local organizations who helped by donating supplies or equipment; Vancouver Island University, Quality Foods, Nanaimo Clippers, VI Raiders and Canadian Cancer Society.

Here are some pictures from the day…
